We recognize that these animals are more than just commodities, they are what sets us apart in the marketplace. As a result, we put a strong emphasis not only on breeding quality, but also on the health of the animals. Our team is already very experienced with caring for livestock, but we ensure that they are the best in the industry by requiring ongoing education offered by professional organizations like the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Organization. All of our cattle are properly vaccinated and age and source verified. Electronic Identification Tags (or eID’s) are applied to each animal prior to shipping. All of these measures are intended to ensure both the health and quality of our animals, and the satisfaction of those who buy from us.
Low Stress
Stress can do awful things to cattle, leading to injuries, lower quality meat, and problems with breeding. Cattle that remain calm during handling have show better weight gain and are less prone to dark cutting meat (a quality defect where the meat is darker and drier than normal and expires faster on store shelves). As a result, we have taken great care to ensure that our hands provide a low stress environment for the cattle from the moment they are born or arrive on our ranch until the moment they ship.
To achieve this goal, we avoid yelling, prevent overcrowding, and adapted our facilities to best suit cattle behavioral tendencies. Not only does this lead to a better quality animal and better cuts of meat, but on shipping day, things move smoothly and efficiently, keeping the animals and the handlers from the direct heat of the mid-afternoon sun.
Nutrition
Of course, any animal is only as healthy as what it eats. That is why we provide our cattle with top quality food and supplements. We also monitor and ensure that our cattle are properly hydrated at all times, and that the water they are taking in is clean and fit for consumption. We also avoid using chemicals in the soil that could transfer into any plant materials the animals may forage from the ground.
